Cidade planejada e verde, Aracaju ostenta um dos melhores índices de qualidade de vida do Nordeste. Para o visitante, é o ponto de partida para passeios de ecoturismo e turismo fluvial. Os mais interessantes vão para o cânion inundado do Xingó, Rio São Francisco, e para Mangue Seco, descendo o Rio Real.
Atalaia, a praia urbana, tem muitos restaurantes concentrados em seu trecho inicial, além do ótimo Oceanário da Tartaruga Marinha. As barracas mais descoladas ficam mais adiante, a partir de Aruana, nas praias ao longo da rodovia José Sarney. As praias mais bonitas são a do Saco, com águas verdes, na foz do Rio Real. Mas não fique só nos rios e no mar. Visite as cidades históricas de São Cristóvão que é a quarta cidade mais antiga do Brasil; fundada em 1590, foi sede do governo sergipano até 1855 e Laranjeiras, referência no folclore. Danças e ritmos regionais como o Reisado, Guerreiros, Lambe-Sujos e Caboclinhos. E, ao chegar a Aracaju, recarregue as energias na Passarela do Caranguejo, onde o crustáceo é servido em vários bares e restaurantes.
A ponte sobre o rio Sergipe, inaugurada em 2006, anuncia os novos tempos da capital do menor estado brasileiro. Por muito tempo minimizada na comparação com as vizinhas nordestinas em função da cor do mar de suas praias - escurecida pela água dos rios Sergipe e Vaza-Barris -, Aracaju teve sua auto-estima elevada quando, do outro lado da ponte, o grupo SuperClubs anunciou a estréia do resort Starfish, o primeiro da bandeira econômica fora da Jamaica. A operadora CVC também constrói um novo hotel na região. Limpa e hospitaleira, a capital sergipana preserva nas artes e na culinária o evidente orgulho de ser nordestina. E, para quem não vive sem águas verde-esmeralda, há passeios de um dia por perto. O principal é o do cânion de Xingó, entre as águas represadas do rio São Francisco.
