Sim, vantagens de cidade pequena: em Maceió ainda dá para andar tranqüilamente na praia ao cair do dia claro que sem exagerar na bobeira.
Alagoas é o “paraíso das águas”. O título é oficial. Tem para todo lado: são duas lagoas e mais 230 quilômetros de praias, além de várias piscinas naturais. Por isso, a probabilidade é que aqui você passe a maior parte do tempo nelas, seja andando de jangada, seja mergulhando para ver peixinhos coloridos, seja tomando inacreditáveis banhos mornos de mar. Além do impressionante cenário azul-turquesa, que em vários momentos se mescla a tons de verde (se vier de avião, não deixe de escolher os vôos diurnos, que são panorâmicos), a cidade já oferece hoje algo mais que belezas naturais. Nos últimos anos houve um bom investimento em infra-estrutura turística. O histórico bairro de Jaraguá foi restaurado, o aeroporto está sendo ampliado e uma grande variedade de restaurantes com cozinhas caprichadas, de hotéis modernos e de pousadas especiais começa a atender bem a uma demanda mais exigente.
De um lado, as águas verdes e claras do Atlântico. Do outro, a bela Mundaú, lagoa serena e morna. Entre elas, os coqueirais e a própria Maceió, com praias se estendendo ao longo da cidade. É só sair do hotel, atravessar a rua e pronto: pisa-se na areia de uma encantadora orla urbana. Sua fama de ser a capital com as melhores praias do país é fácil de ser comprovada. Basta dar um giro na região norte de Maceió até Cruz das Almas, saída para quem segue para Maragogi: há piscinas naturais, locais para surfe, windsurfe e mergulho; e espaço de sobra para jogar futebol ou vôlei de praia. Pajuçara, Ponta Verde e Jatiúca concentram a maioria dos hotéis e restaurantes. Nesse trecho reúnem-se as tapioqueiras com receitas especialíssimas da iguaria. A capital alagoana é ainda ponto de partida para comprar rendas no bairro Pontal da Barra ou visitar a histórica cidade de Marechal Deodoro, às margens da lagoa Manguaba.
